Legislative Scholarships

Delegate Scholarships

Delegate Scholarships may be need-or merit-based awards. Annual award amounts range from $200 to $12,030. Some Delegates make their own awards and some Delegates ask MHEC to make awards for them. Students may be awarded more than one Delegate Scholarship. To be eligible for the Delegate Scholarship, a student must:

  • File the FAFSA by or MSFAA March 1st each year.
  • Be a Maryland resident. (If you a re a dependent student, your parent(s) must also have Maryland residency.)
  • Enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time or part-time (6-11 credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Re-apply each year you wish to be considered for Delegate Scholarships. These awards are not automatically renewed.
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

Senatorial Scholarships

Senatorial Scholarships may be need- or merit-based awards. Annual award amounts range from $400 to $11,530. Some Senators make their own awards and some Senators ask MHEC to make awards for them. Students may be awarded more than one Senatorial Scholarship. To be eligible for the Senatorial Scholarship, a student must:

  • File the FAFSA or MSFAA by March 1st each year.
  • Be a Maryland resident. (If you a re a dependent student, your parent(s) must also have Maryland residency.)
  • Enroll at a two-year or four-year Maryland college or university as a full-time or part-time (6-11 credits per semester), degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Have taken the SAT or ACT unless you graduated from high school five (5) or more years ago, have earned 24+ college credit hours, or are attending a community college.
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).

If your Delegates and/or State Senator makes their own awards, you must call or write to the legislator for further instructions. MHEC can provide a list of all Maryland legislators. If you do not know how to contact your Delegates or State Senator, you may call the Board of Supervisors of Elections in your home county, or visit www.mdelect.net.
