The Financial Smarts Grant is a $500 per year award available to eligible students who complete the Financial Smarts CashCourse, a self-paced online financial literacy tutorial. The Financial Smarts Grant is renewable for three additional years, making your total grant eligibility $2,000.
To receive your Financial Smarts Grant:
- Complete the CashCourse by July 1, 2018.
- Navigate to Blackboard to enroll in the course. Click https://umbc.app.box.com/v/selfenrollsteps for instructions on how to enroll in the course.
- Upon completion of all 7 modules and the post-assessment, the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will be notified and will e-mail you the Financial Smarts Grant Certificate.
- Get your Award!
- E-sign the Certificate and your Financial Smarts Grant will be added to your Financial Aid offer!
- The Grant is renewable for up to 3 additional years. Renewal Actions:
- Complete the follow-up survey provided in Spring 2019.
- Once the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships receives your completed survey, your grant will be renewed if you have fulfilled these requirements:
- Complete your FAFSA for the upcoming year by 2/14.
- Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP).
- Have not received other grants and scholarships that exceed your Cost of Attendance for the school year.

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships and the Financial Literacy and Education Committee have partnered to offer the Financial Smarts Grant opportunity. Recipients of the Financial Smarts Grant are ineligible for any other financial award/prize offerings associated with completion of the Financial Smarts CashCourse.
